Complete a StarCraft shareware mission

A reproducible harness lets Jev direct combat, exploration, and economy actions in the original StarCraft shareware campaign.

01 · Role in the system

What Jev does here

Jev receives owned and currently visible game state, selects an intent category, and chooses a compatible command inside that category. The harness translates choices into ordinary mouse and keyboard input, verifies command acceptance, preserves action probabilities, and records evidence. The original game remains responsible for simulation, enemies, combat, and victory.

Two-level choices over a paused battlefield

The harness reads owned and visible game state, then asks Jev for an intent category and a compatible command inside that category — a hierarchy that keeps each judgment over a short, legal option list. The game is paused for state reads and inference, choices become ordinary mouse and keyboard input, and command acceptance is verified rather than assumed.

Preserving action probabilities is the subtle part. The harness records the model's confidence for every decision, which is what makes the run auditable after the fact: a reviewer can see not only what was chosen but how contested each choice was.

One victory, kept in proportion

The completed mission arrived on attempt sixteen, with an evidence bundle and a visually reviewed victory screen behind it. That is a real end-to-end result against the original game's own combat and economy rules — and it is exactly one run, which is why the record declines to call it a win rate.

The original game remains the opponent, the simulator, and the referee. The harness never patches the binary or reads enemy state the player could not see, which keeps the achievement inside the game's own rules and the evidence clean.

02 · Control boundary

Where Jev sits

Observed game memory to hierarchical intent and command Choices; a deterministic adapter executes legal input.

Code owns the loop, permissions, thresholds, validation, and side effects. Jev owns only the bounded judgments described above.

03 · Known limits

What this evidence does not prove

  • One successful development run does not establish a win rate or competitive real-time performance.
  • The game is paused for state reads and inference, and action probabilities are not probabilities of winning.
