Morph one input into the right UI with typed intent
One text box that becomes the right UI as you type - an event card, checklist, timer, color picker, bill splitter or poll - with Jev Nouls deciding what the input means and code rendering the component; live demo included.
01 · Role in the system
What Jev does here
As the user types, the input is asked a set of yes/no questions - is it a question, is it recurring, does it have explicit options, is it a shopping list, and kin - and each answer is a Noul probability rather than a parsed intent string. Combinations of those calibrated answers decide what the box becomes: an event card for dinner plans with a date, a checklist for shopping, a bill splitter for split 2400 between 3, a color for minecraft diamond. Components render client-side from the structured result; nothing is generated, so a wrong reading is visible and editable rather than hallucinated. The demo gif shows the morph chain from a dinner plan to a shopping list in one field, and the site runs live on Vercel.
02 · Control boundary
Where Jev sits
Jev as the intent layer of a shape-shifting input: parallel Nouls classify what the text means, code maps answer combinations onto a fixed component set, and rendering stays deterministic and editable.
Code owns the loop, permissions, thresholds, validation, and side effects. Jev owns only the bounded judgments described above.
03 · Known limits
What this evidence does not prove
- The component set is fixed; new shapes need new questions and renderers.
- Morph decisions ride on single-shot Nouls; no conversational correction of a misreading.
- Shared on Discord by @hodlerhacks; the 715-star project is driven by one author.
